In 1942, Robert Levy, together with David Jaffe and Irving Landsman created the Fashioncraft Jewelry Company. They were located in New York and used the
marks, Original by Robert, Fashioncraft, Fashioncraft Robert and
Robert. In 1960 the name of the company was changed to Robert Originals
Inc.
In 1975 Jaffe's daughter, Ellen joined the company. Shortly after Robert's retirement the company name changed to "Ellen designs for Robert Originals" - 1979 and in 1984 it became "Ellen Designs".
The fabulous beaded jewelry made by this company have often been compared to the work
of Miriam Haskell and Stanley Hagler due to the similar use of filigree and intricate
beaded design.
