This wonderfully detailed and unusual Victorian vulcanite violin brooch or pin, c. late 1800's, measures 2" by 3/4".
While can difficult to distinguish between jet and vulcanite jewelry of the period, I feel that this piece is molded rather than carved which would indicate a vulcanite composition. A violin figural appears to be an unusual subject for this period as well. The backing is the old c style clasp and all is tight and secure.
