Here is a superb Victorian carved Whitby jet mourning brooch. The design is an intricate open-work design which appears to have been carved from one piece. It closes with an old "c" clasp and has a tube hinge. There is an attached ring for a chain so that it can also be worn as a necklace. The edge has a lacy pattern with drilled openings. I see that one of the small loops has a piece missing, (see picture). This brooch is otherwise in very good condition. It measures 1 1/2" x 1 3/8". |
