This remarkable vintage abstract modernist pendant necklace is signed with the mark of Gilles (Guy) Vidal. This French Canadian artist created award winning designs in the 60s and 70s. He worked in his own custom pewter mix and electroplated his pieces in silver to give them a rich and textured design. His pieces have a wonderful modernist handworked look and feel. The pendant measures 1 3/8" x 1 1/16 and the chain is 20" with a spring ring clasp. Condition is excellent. The matching bracelet is also available for sale.
We were happy to provide pictures of a number of modernist jewelry pieces (including the above necklace), to Carlton Publishing for use in a new book entitled "Vintage Jewelry - Collecting and Wearing Twentieth-Century Designs", written by leading fashion authority, Caroline Cox.
